Information Diffusion in eDonkey Filesharing Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications have become highly popular in today’s Internet due to the spread of file sharing platforms such as KaZaa, eDonkey, and BitTorrent. P2P technologies have emerged from disruptive, grey-scale applications to developments of business-cases. In this paper we investigate the diffusion behavior in an eDonkey-like system. We use nonstationary simulation techniques to investigate how a file is spread out in such a P2P environment. The influence of parameters like sharing probability, request arrival rate, or file size on the diffusion process is also investigated.

A Measurement-Based Traffic Profile of the eDonkey Filesharing Service
Peer-to-peer file sharing applications have evolved to one of the major traffic sources in the Internet. In particular, the eDonkey file sharing system and its derivatives are causing high amounts of traffic volume in today’s networks. The eDonkey system is typically used for exchanging very large files like audio/video CDs or even DVD images. In this report we provide a measurement based traff...

متن کاملBusiness Model Peer-to-Peer – Is there a future beyond filesharing?
The main application domain of Peer-to-Peer (p2p) networks currently is filesharing. It is an open question, whether there are applications beyond Filesharing and whether this paradigm has the potential to succeed in the long run. The paper comprises a model to analyze P2P through a technological, through a content and service and through an organizational prism. A case study of the music indus...
متن کاملAdaptive Content Poisoning To Prevent Illegal File Distribution in P2P Networks
Digital content owners have attempted to use content poisoning to disrupt illegal distribution of copyrighted files in peer-to-peer (P2P) systems. This paper provides an analytical model to quantify the impact of content poisoning. Tradeoffs between content poisoning and download efficiency are revealed. In particular, we apply this poisoning model to transform and evaluate three popular P2P ne...
